Birth & Lineage

Born in Medina around 83 AH, Ja’far al-Sadiq inherited the school of his father al-Baqir at a time when Umayyad power was collapsing and the Abbasids rising.

Life & Virtues

His circle of teaching grew into a true university: some four thousand students learned from him, including the founders of Sunni schools of law. The Twelver school of jurisprudence bears his name — the Ja’fari school — for the wealth he taught in law, theology and the sciences.

Martyrdom & Legacy

He was poisoned and passed away in Medina in 148 AH, and is buried in Jannat al-Baqi.
