Birth & Lineage
Hasan was born in Medina in 3 AH, the elder son of Ali and Fatima and the first grandson of the Prophet, who loved him dearly and called Hasan and Husayn “the masters of the youth of Paradise.”
Life & Virtues
After his father’s martyrdom he became Imam and was acclaimed caliph. To spare the community a ruinous civil war, he made a treaty with Mu’awiya on conditions meant to protect the people — a patient, wise choice made to preserve the faith and Muslim lives.
Martyrdom & Legacy
Hasan spent his final years in Medina devoted to worship and charity. He was poisoned and passed away in 50 AH, and is buried in the cemetery of Jannat al-Baqi.
