Ziyarat Ashura
The central salutation of the day. Facing the qibla (or the shrine of Imam Husayn), you greet him, renew your loyalty to him and the Ahl al-Bayt, disavow those who wronged them, and repeat the salutation and the cursing of the oppressors one hundred times each. It is followed by Dua Alqama.
You don’t need to read it — you may simply listen. In the sight of God the two are equal; what matters is that you take part.

Translation
Peace be upon you, O Abu Abdillah. Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah. Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful and the son of the Master of the Successors. Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah, the Lady of the women of all the worlds. Peace be upon you, O the one whose blood belongs to Allah, and the son of the one whose blood belongs to Him, and the solitary one whose vengeance remains unavenged. Peace be upon you and upon the souls that settled in your courtyard. Upon all of you, from me, be the peace of Allah forever, as long as I remain alive and as long as night and day endure.
O Abu Abdillah, indeed the calamity has become immense and tremendous. The tragedy of you has become immense for us and for all the people of Islam. Your affliction has become tremendous and immense in the heavens for all the inhabitants of the heavens.
So may Allah curse a nation that laid the foundation of oppression and injustice against you, O People of the House. And may Allah curse a nation that drove you away from your rightful station and removed you from the ranks in which Allah had placed you.
And may Allah curse a nation that killed you. And may Allah curse those who paved the way for them by enabling them to fight you. I dissociate myself before Allah and before you from them, and from their supporters, their followers, and their allies.
O Abu Abdillah, indeed I am at peace with whoever is at peace with you, and I am at war with whoever wages war against you, until the Day of Resurrection.
And may Allah curse the family of Ziyad. And may Allah curse the family of Marwan. And may Allah curse all of the Umayyads without exception. And may Allah curse Ibn Marjanah. And may Allah curse Umar ibn Sa'd. And may Allah curse Shimr. And may Allah curse the nation that saddled, bridled, and prepared itself for fighting you.
May my father and my mother be sacrificed for you. Indeed, my grief because of you has become immense. So I ask Allah, Who honored your station and honored me through you, to grant me the opportunity to seek your vengeance alongside a victorious Imam from the Household of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his family.
O Allah, make me, through al-Husayn, peace be upon him, one who is held in honor before You in this world and the Hereafter.
O Abu Abdillah, indeed I seek nearness to Allah, and to His Messenger, and to the Commander of the Faithful, and to Fatimah, and to al-Hasan, and to you through devotion and allegiance to you, and through dissociation from whoever fought you and waged war against you, and through dissociation from whoever laid the foundation of oppression and injustice against you.
And I dissociate myself before Allah and before His Messenger from whoever laid the foundation of that, built its structure upon it, and continued in its oppression and injustice against you and against your followers.
I dissociate myself before Allah and before you from them. And I seek nearness to Allah, then to you, through devotion and allegiance to you, and allegiance to your guardian, and through dissociation from your enemies, and from those who declared war against you, and through dissociation from their supporters and their followers.
Indeed, I am at peace with whoever is at peace with you. I am at war with whoever wages war against you. I am a loyal supporter of whoever is loyal to you. And I am an enemy of whoever is your enemy.
So I ask Allah, Who honored me with the knowledge of you and the knowledge of your devoted supporters, and granted me dissociation from your enemies, to make me with you in this world and the Hereafter, and to establish for me, in your presence, a firm footing of truth in this world and the Hereafter.
And I ask Him to cause me to attain the Praiseworthy Station that belongs to you before Allah, and to grant me the opportunity to seek vengeance for my cause alongside a guiding Imam, manifest and speaking the truth, from among you.
And I ask Allah, by your right and by the rank that you possess before Him, to grant me, because of my grief over you, the best reward that He grants to one afflicted by his affliction.
An affliction — how immense it is, and how tremendous its calamity is — in Islam and throughout all the heavens and the earth!
O Allah, make me, in this station of mine, among those who receive from You blessings, mercy, and forgiveness.
O Allah, make my life the life of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and my death the death of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
O Allah, indeed this is a day in which the children of Umayyah have sought blessing, and the son of the liver-eater, the accursed son of the accursed, as declared upon Your tongue and upon the tongue of Your Prophet, may Allah bless him and his family, in every place and every station in which Your Prophet, may Allah bless him and his family, stood.
O Allah, curse Abu Sufyan, Muawiyah, and Yazid ibn Muawiyah, upon them be Your curse forever and ever.
And this is a day in which the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan rejoiced at the killing of al-Husayn, peace be upon him.
O Allah, double upon them Your curse and the painful punishment.
O Allah, I seek nearness to You on this day, in this station of mine, and throughout the days of my life, through dissociation from them and through invoking curse upon them, and through allegiance to Your Prophet and the family of Your Prophet, peace be upon him and upon them.
Then say one hundred times:
O Allah, curse the first oppressor who oppressed the right of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and the last follower of him in that. O Allah, curse the group that fought al-Husayn, supported it, pledged allegiance for it, and followed through in killing him. O Allah, curse them all.
Then say one hundred times:
Peace be upon you, O Abu Abdillah, and upon the souls that settled in your courtyard. Upon you from me is the peace of Allah forever, as long as I remain and as long as night and day remain. And may Allah not make it the last time I visit you.
Peace be upon al-Husayn, and upon Ali ibn al-Husayn, and upon the children of al-Husayn, and upon the companions of al-Husayn.
Then you say:
O Allah, single out the first oppressor with curse from me, and begin with him first, then the second, the third, and the fourth. O Allah, curse Yazid as the fifth. And curse Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, Ibn Marjanah, Umar ibn Sa'd, Shimr, the family of Abu Sufyan, the family of Ziyad, and the family of Marwan, until the Day of Resurrection.
Then prostrate (sujud) and say:
O Allah, to You belongs all praise — the praise of those who are grateful to You for their calamity. All praise is due to Allah for my immense affliction.
O Allah, grant me the intercession of al-Husayn on the Day of Arrival, and make firm for me a truthful footing with You alongside al-Husayn and the companions of al-Husayn, those who sacrificed their lives for al-Husayn, peace be upon him.
